Not Suitable for Children

Aussie film opens Sydney Film Festival

» IT'S set in Sydney's Inner West and follows a trio of housemates enjoying their hedonistic 20s. It's the Aussie film Not Suitable for Children by first-time film director Peter Templeman, and it opens this year's Sydney Film Festival.

Not Suitable for Children stars Ryan Kwanten, Sarah Snook and Ryan Corr as the partying no-commitment twentysomethings. Suddenly, the character played by Kwanten discovers he is facing infertility and becomes obsessed with having a child before it is too late.

The 2012 Sydney Film Festival, now in its 59th year, is being held from June 6 to 17 with new features from more than 40 countries, together with short films, documentaries, Australian films and archived titles.

In the official competition for the Sydney Film Prize are 12 films including two from Australia — Dead Europe by Tony Krawitz and Lore, an Australia-Germany co-production directed by Cate Shortland.

    The Unspeakable Itch

    After the confetti
    has turned to dust

» COMEDY/drama duo Drew Fairley and Kate Smith (Bangers and Mash, The No Chance in Hell Hotel) are back together in their new comedic creation The Unspeakable Itch, with songs by Phil Scott, at Darlinghurst Theatre from June 13.

In their new work, Matt and Bec have been married for seven years; he wants a raise, she wants her cushions fluffed. He keeps fingering his car keys, she spends hours staring into the backyard longing for a new deck. If only they hadn't started scratching the unspeakable itch.

"The Unspeakable Itch is a riff on our observations about love, marriage and money in the 21st century," says Kate Smith.
